From Nashville to Hollywood

Miley Cyrus hit the music scene as a fictional character from a TV show but soon emerged as a real life teenage rock star capable of holding her own on stage as any of the legendary singers from the 60's and 70's. Mick Jagger swagger with Brigid Bardot's looks, Miley created a unique vision of a pop superstar that blended her Nashville roots with a Hollywood Girl attitude towards the American Dream.

She was THE pop idol for many young people in the mid 2000's but has yet to be fully recognized for inclusion within the pantheon of pop music superstars in 21st century. Never the less her self-reinvention in late 2012 established her as the mistress of the music video on I-tunes, VEVO, and Youtube while her televised live performances earned her notoriety and acclaim as THE pop princess for her regal fashion style and the international reach of her fame.

Besides her official label recordings Miley has produced a variety of live and recorded covers which in some ways more accurately reflect her vocal abilities and musical sensitivities. A sample of this output appears below and is the focus of this blog.

Miley Cyrus appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live to perform her cover of Bob Dyan‘s classic “You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go.”
"Showing off her new shoulder-length bob haircut, and her belly in a crop top and jeans, Miley, accompanied only by acoustic guitarist Johnzo West, gave a mellow performance of the tune, which is featured on Amnesty International’s charity compilation, Chimes of Freedom: The Songs of Bob Dylan, out now."

Miley's cover of Poison's only number-one hit in the United States. Poison's original recording reached the top spot on Christmas Eve in 1988 for three weeks (carrying over into 1989). A classic 80's love song and power ballad. Miley's studio version is on "Can't Be Tamed" CD released in 2010 with Bret Michael's on backing vocals.
